The Foolproof Secret to Separate, Long Grains
Cooking Basmati rice is an art, but with premium aged grains and the right water ratio, you will get restaurant-quality fluffy rice every single time without breaking a single grain.
The Golden Ratio
- 1 cup Amruta Goods Pusa Basmati Rice
- 1.75 cups Water
- 1 tsp Ghee or Oil
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- Aromatic whole spices: 1 Bay leaf, 2 Green Cardamom, 1 Star Anise
Step-by-Step Method
- Gently Wash: Rinse 1 cup basmati rice under cold water 3-4 times until the water runs clear. This washes away excess surface starch.
- Soak (Essential!): Soak the rice in fresh water for 25-30 minutes. Soaking relaxes the grain structure and allows maximum elongation without breaking.
- Boil & Simmer: In a heavy-bottom pot, bring 1.75 cups water to a rolling boil with whole spices, ghee, and salt. Drain soaked rice and gently add to boiling water.
- Cover: Once it boils again, immediately lower the heat to the lowest possible setting, cover with a tight-fitting lid, and let it cook undisturbed for exactly 11 minutes. Do NOT remove the lid during this time!
- Rest & Fluff: Turn off the heat and let the pot sit covered for 5 minutes. Remove the lid and gently fluff the grains with a fork from edge to center. Serve hot!
